Dr. Venkatachalam (she/hers) is a board certified obstetrician/gynecologist with over 20 years of experience in providing progressive and equitable care, from adolescence through menopause. She particularly loves guiding people through their fertility journey, whether it be through contraception counseling and treatments, actively managing infertility obstacles, or providing reproductive choice options. She is an expert in the management of the abnormal pap smear and the treatment of menstrual cycle issues, including abnormal bleeding or PCOS. She is skilled at minimally invasive surgery, including endometrial ablations and hysteroscopic treatments for both abnormal bleeding and infertility. Obstetrically, Dr. Venkatachalam is passionate about managing both low risk and higher-risk pregnancies, including pregnancies that are complicated by hypertension, preterm labor, or diabetes, having presented research on gestational diabetes at both the regional and national levels. She enjoys caring for advanced maternal age pregnancies, twin gestations, and for those who desire evaluation for a vaginal delivery after a cesarean section.
With a strong belief that educating women improves health outcomes, Dr. Venkatachalam has served as a guest speaker throughout Chicago, including the Illinois’ Department of Health and Human Services and local organizations like the Northside Parents Network and Step Up!, She continues to be featured on WGN News in Chicago, discussing often ignored female issues. Dr. Venkatachalam is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University where she has earned multiple teaching awards. She has spent time in both Asia and Africa, providing services such as prenatal care and STD prevention to underserved populations as well as providing volunteer gynecological services at the CHC free clinic in Chicago since 2010. In 2022, Dr. Venkatachalam was named a Top Doc by the Best in Illinois Magazine. This demonstrates her ardent belief that comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological care can only be achieved through education and the advocacy of reproductive rights.
Dr. Venkatachalam graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Biology and French Literature. She received her Masters in Public Health from the George Washington University in Washington D.C., specializing in Epidemiology. After earning her MD from the University of Tennessee, Memphis, she completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York University. Prior to joining NSW, she was on faculty at Emory University, serving as Residency Coordinator in addition to providing outstanding patient care. Dr. Venkatachalam is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is proficient in both Spanish and French. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 daughters, and her dog. She enjoys conducting on-line cooking classes, studying classical Indian dance, and traveling, having visited over 50 countries on six of the seven continents.
