Annual Exam

WELL-WOMAN VISIT & PHYSICALS

It is recommended that all women of reproductive age see a gynecologist on an annual basis. These visits should be initiated during the teen years and continued well through menopause. The focus of this visit is on preventative care and health optimization.
The annual visit will typically include an overview of your medical history, a detailed gynecologic history, a physical exam including a breast and pelvic exam, and health counseling on topics pertinent to you such as contraception, family-planning or menopause. Certain screening tests may be offered as well.

Screening Tests We May Recommend:

  • Cervical Cancer Screening (Pap Smear): starting at 21 with intervals to be determined by your physician at your annual exam
  • Mammography: annually after age 40, or earlier based upon your personal or family history Bone Density Testing: after menopause, at intervals based upon your risk factors for osteoporosis
  • Colorectal Cancer Screening (Colonoscopy): every 10 years after age 45, or earlier based upon your family history
  • Blood work: to be determined by your physician, may include testing for Diabetes, Cholesterol, Thyroid, Anemia and Vitamin D Deficiency
